The reason to note that there are infinite amounts of computer viruses that can be made and there are infinite vulnerabilities in any system, and how you make your tech become un-hackable is to get that virus first and then know what it does and how it got in and then patch it up and there, it won't work anymore

Its not that far fetched, its just a computer code that controls the shield emitter, the plotline of this movie is that these aliens have sent scouts to Earth in our past, some crashed, we reverse engineered some of their technology, learned what we could with what we had, which until they came back with their mothership wasn't fully operational. But the idea was we developed some of our tech from theirs.

If I recall correctly; they had access to a crashed alien spaceship for 50 something years & it might have been possible to back engineer something, but an exposition of this might have taken a grade B cult film & elevated it to a class A cult film ?

There is supposedly a deleted scene where they mention that our computer technology was developed by studying the very ship they are shooting at in this scene.

I always thought it was more along the lines of the aliens never encountered anything like the humans and their ingenuity of mind was able to work around all the aliens technology. Plus there's the fact that they had the alien device for many many years and all it took was one person to put the final pieces together that the other scientists could not.

Or maybe because they are from a different planet with different circumstances and would not have thought to protect against this type of attack.

I don't know in the movie signs. The aliens couldn't even work a door handle even though they had invisible ships. From outer space.

When a whole alien race is a hive mind. There is no point in developing defenses against a computer virus. The whole reason humans can stop a computer virus is because there is people making viruses and people making anti-virus. But since the alien race dont atrack each other there is no point.

In the movie all earths computer tech was based on a crashed alien ship so they’d be comparable.

I think you fail to realize that we as humans have advanced technology that can be destroyed with a drop of water, I doubt just because a species is advanced that would equal to it being flawless. And from personal experience the more intelligent someone was it’s been easier to trick them.
